Virgil Abloh will be honored with own day in his hometown

In the wake of Virgil Abloh’s passing, the late fashion designer will be awarded his own day in his hometown of Rockford, Illinois. As TMZ reported, city officials wanted to pay homage to the Off White star by officially celebrating his accomplishments and positive impact on the youth of his community. For this reason, they’ve designated the first of December as “Virgil Abloh Day.” The start of the annual commemoration will take place tomorrow (Dec. 1) after Mayor McNamara reads a proclamation and announces the special day. Abloh, known for breaking barriers as an African American man in the fashion industry, silently battled an aggressive form of cancer while creating relationships with celebrities and fellow designers who have flooded social media with tributes since his tragic death.
