Teachers are a big part of the heart of every community. With patience, passion, and purpose, they do so much more than deliver lessons — they ignite curiosity, build confidence, and shape futures. That's why iHeartRadio is helping to shine the spotlight on teachers across the country, officially launching its annual "Thank A Teacher" campaign in partnership with longtime ally DonorsChoose, the education nonprofit that helps public school teachers access much-needed classroom supplies.
Running through August 29th, "Thank A Teacher" honors the dedication of educators while spotlighting the urgent need for better funding in schools across the U.S. The month-long campaign invites the public to nominate exceptional public school teachers who are making a lasting impact on their students. Nominations can be submitted at donorschoose.org/iHeartRadio, and DonorsChoose will verify each teacher’s eligibility based on their employment in U.S. public schools. Throughout August, standout educators will be highlighted on local iHeartRadio stations in recognition of their efforts.
As an added boost, five nominated teachers will be randomly selected in September to receive $5,000 in DonorsChoose gift cards to help fund classroom projects and supplies.
To further amplify the campaign, iHeartMedia has pledged $500,000 in public service announcements that will run across its radio stations. These PSAs aim to raise awareness of the daily resource challenges teachers face and to inspire listeners to take action by supporting classrooms through DonorsChoose.
"Every year, millions of educators spend their own money to fill gaps in classroom resources," said Jon Zellner, President of Programming Operations and Digital Music for iHeartMedia. "iHeartRadio's 'Thank A Teacher' aims to shine a light on the quiet and positive work happening in classrooms across the country and to offer a very public thank you to the teachers who are doing so much."
Alix Guerrier, CEO of DonorsChoose, echoed that sentiment, "Public school teachers are about to launch the back-to-school season, and they’re doing everything they can to prepare their classrooms for students. iHeartRadio's 'Thank A Teacher' is making sure that educators feel appreciated for going the extra mile."
The "Thank A Teacher" campaign not only honors the essential role of educators but also encourages communities to rally behind them as they prepare for a new school year.
